The OpenROSA consortium members will be meeting in Durban on 16 June 2008. The gathering will be a satelite meeting to the HIS / OpenMRS / OSHCA Africa Conference that is taking place from the 17-20 of June. The meeting will cover the status of various OpenROSA development projects as well as the continued organisation of the new consortiuom.

The OpenROSA consortium exists to reduce duplication of effort among the many groups working on mobile data collection systems. Our goal is to foster open-source, standards-based tools for mobile data collection, aggregation, analysis, and reporting. By developing open source solutions and conforming to standards based on the XForms specification, our different projects can easily share code, data, ideas and infrastructure.

Many of the consortium members are working on JavaROSA, an open source J2ME codebase that conforms to the OpenROSA standards. JavaROSA is being developed for a wide range of uses, including disease surveillance, household surveys, collection of longitudinal data for electronic medical records, guiding health workers through medical protocols at the point of care, and supporting community health workers.
